Quality & Standards

Commitment to Excellence

At Thompson Pipe Group, quality is more than a production metric—it’s a company-wide philosophy. Our management systems prioritize customer satisfaction, occupational health and safety, and environmental responsibility. Every product is manufactured under certified systems:

  • ISO 9001 – Quality Management
  • ISO 14001 – Environmental Management
  • ISO 45001 – Occupational Health & Safety

We adhere to internationally recognized standards, with all required tests conducted in accredited laboratories.

Quality Assurance Through Rigorous Testing

At Thompson Pipe Group, every product is backed by a comprehensive testing program that ensures long-term reliability, durability, and compliance with international standards. Testing begins with raw materials and continues throughout production and qualification, providing confidence that our pipes will perform for decades in service.

Production Control Tests

From the delivery of raw materials to the shipment of finished products, strict control measures are in place. Raw materials arrive with supplier certifications and are further verified through incoming laboratory tests before use.

During production, every pipe undergoes performance checks, including:

  • Visual Inspection
  • Barcol Hardness
  • Dimensional Checks (pipe length, diameter, wall thickness)
  • Hydrostatic Leak Tightness Test (for pressure pipes)

Additional sampling tests further validate product integrity:

  • Pipe Stiffness Determination
  • Deflection without Damage or Structural Failure
  • Axial and Circumferential Tensile Strength Tests
  • Composition Analysis

Qualification Testing for Long-Term Performance

To confirm long-term performance and establish design criteria, our pipes are also subjected to extensive short- and long-term qualification testing. These programs extend beyond 10,000 hours, providing data that demonstrate reliable performance over a 50-year service life.

Qualification Tests Include:

  • Strain Corrosion Testing
  • Hydrostatic Design Basis (HDB)
  • Abrasion Resistance
  • Joint Qualification
  • Water Jetting Resistance
  • Long-Term Ring Bending Strain
  • Long-Term Specific Ring Stiffness

Material Properties of TPG FRP

TPG FRP is a cost-effective solution with low installation and operating costs, long service life, and high performance for sewer, hydroelectric, and industrial projects. Its ultra-smooth bore and engineered features deliver optimal hydraulic efficiency and life-cycle value.

Other TPG FRP properties, which are useful when designing a project with fiberglass pipe include:

Key Properties:

  • Hazen-Williams flow coefficient: C = 150
  • Low friction = reduced pumping energy and operating costs
  • Manning’s “n” coefficient: 0.009
  • Minimal slime buildup = lower cleaning costs
  • Excellent abrasion resistance
  • Colebrook-White coefficient: 9.5 x 10⁵ ft
  • Poisson’s ratio: 0.22 – 0.29

Thermal expansion coefficient: 13 – 17 x 10⁶ in/in/°F
