RCCP (C300)

Reinforced Concrete Cylinder Pipe (AWWA C300)

Reinforced Concrete Cylinder Pipe (RCCP – C300) is available in nominal diameters from 36″ to 144″ with standard laying lengths of 12′ to 20′, depending on diameter. Manufactured in accordance with AWWA C300 and designed per Manual M9, RCCP is ideal for high-pressure and deep bury water transmission and stormwater infrastructure.

First introduced in 1919, RCCP features a welded steel cylinder, steel joint rings, and reinforcing cages, all encased in high-strength portland cement concrete. This design ensures long-term durability and corrosion resistance, making it a trusted solution for demanding environments.

C300 Features

Designed for Project Requirements

RCCP (C300) is custom-designed and made for your specific application. Each section of pipe, along with each fitting, is manufactured to meet the project pressure and overburden requirements and can be custom configured as you require.

Ease of Installation

RCCP is installed in less time on-site due to its rigidity. RCCP needs no special bedding or backfilling under normal ground conditions.

Corrosion Protection

RCCP provides built-in corrosion protection due to its unique design. Steel components are encased in concrete. The cement-rich concrete encasement chemically protects (passivates) all steel elements from corrosion.

High Pressure Capacity

RCCP (C300), designed as a rigid pipe, is manufactured to handle typical municipal transmission pressures and loads. However, higher-pressure capacities are available (up to 400 PSI) if project requirements warrant. Maximum loads and pressures depend on pipe diameter, wall thickness and steel/cage reinforcement.

Advantages:

  • Strength and rigidity: Concrete with an embedded steel cylinder delivers high structural strength and structural reinforcement.
  • Corrosion resistance: Concrete encasement protects the steel cylinder from external corrosion.
  • Customizable diameters and lengths: Available in diameters from 36″ to 144″ and in standard laying lengths of 12 to 20 feet.
  • Durable under heavy loads: The combination of reinforced concrete and steel makes C300 pipes ideal for heavy earth cover.
  • Cost-effective for large systems: Long life-cycle and low maintenance reduce costs compared to alternative pressure pipes.

Typical C300 Applications

  • Transmission/feeder main eliminate.
  • Sanitary force mains and trunk gravity pipelines
  • Water: single-pass tunnel applications (e.g., microtunnel)
  • Inverted siphons
  • Vertical shaft/MH/chamber piping walls
  • Chlorine contact tanks
  • Detention (underground) tanks
  • Water and/or wastewater intakes / outfalls (subaqueous pipelines)
  • Treatment facility – yard piping
  • Cooling water system pipelines
  • Power and industrial plant piping
  • Direct jacking

Critical Components Used During Installation

  • Rubber-gasketed steel joints for watertight connections
  • Interior and exterior joint coatings for protection
  • Snap ring and clamp-type mechanically restrained joints
  • Mortar collars for joint protection
  • Thrust restraint systems to resist pressure forces

Installation Types

  • Trench installation with bedding and backfill
  • Tunnel and trenchless installation
  • Pipe jacking and microtunneling
