Bring It On — A Legacy and a Future in Construction
Our story begins in 1977, when Ken M. Thompson founded Ken Thompson, Inc., an underground utilities contracting company focused on excavating and installing large-diameter concrete pipe. The invaluable experience gained in the field would shape our approach to the industry forever.
In 1988, Ken took the next bold step by applying his contracting expertise to manufacturing, and Rialto Concrete Products was born. This shift brought hands-on construction knowledge into the precast pipe manufacturing world. By 2009, the business took a strategic turn for the Thompson family, pivoting to a full focus on expanding manufacturing operations and leaving the installation to our clients. This evolution culminated in 2015 with a name change to Thompson Pipe Group, unifying our growing capabilities under one brand.
Today, we are not only a leader in manufacturing, but our Pipeline Services team is also on call 24 hours a day for emergencies. TPG can provide everything from the simplest fitting to large-diameter pipes, sourcing directly from E-Stock located at any of our plants. We understand what it takes to build at scale, and we continue to invest in products and processes that make infrastructure easier to design, construct, and maintain.
We also carry forward the industry’s early history by maintaining the Price Brothers’ archival pipeline plans – valuable records from one of the pioneers of reinforced concrete and early PCCP development – as well as historical records from Gifford-Hill and other acquired assets. This archive accounts for nearly 80 percent of the country’s large-diameter concrete pressure pipe installations.
